Omaha Public Library staff is happy to provide limited research assistance and look-ups for out-of-town researchers. Requests are answered in the order in which they are received and as staff time allows. If you live in the Omaha area, please consider coming to the library where you can receive personal help with your inquiries.
We will provide photocopies or digital scans of the following from microfilm if an exact citation is provided:
- Obituaries (see index, opens a new window maintained by the Greater Omaha Genealogical Society)
- Other newspaper articles or notices (see list of newspapers, opens a new window available on microfilm)
- Marriage records (see index, opens a new window maintained by the Greater Omaha Genealogical Society). See our current list of marriage records, opens a new window on microfilm.
Staff will also check the library's in-house obituary card index, city directory collection (1866-current), or book indexes for up to three names at a time.
The fee for this service is $5 per copy request, in advance.
For more extensive research problems, a maximum half-hour search will be undertaken for a fee of $20 in advance. This includes five copies. Any additional copies will be charged at $1 per page.
Requests which are unclear or which will require more than half an hour's research will be refused, although staff will endeavor to suggest alternate resources where possible.
Requests may be submitted via postal mail (please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope), by e-mail, or via the research request form. In order to prevent misunderstandings and inaccuracies, requests should be made in writing. Please limit requests to three names/items at a time.
No contract is intended to be formed by the exchange of fees for research services. The Library makes every attempt to provide accurate information, but makes no guarantee, warranty, or representation as to the quality and/or accuracy of the research services provided. Consequently, the Library hereby disclaims any and all liability for any injury, loss, and/or damages that may result from any error(s) and/or omission(s) in the Library's administration of the services requested.
