Omaha Public Library Invites Artists to Exhibit in Michael Phipps Gallery

Omaha Public Library (OPL) is accepting applications from Omaha-area artists for 2022 exhibitions in the Michael Phipps Gallery. The Phipps Gallery is located in the southeast corner of the first floor at W. Dale Clark Main Library, 215 S 15th St. Exhibitions may be on display for up to three months.

Literacy and the power of story are central to all programs and activities at OPL. Consideration will be given to proposals that incorporate or interact with books, reading, story-telling in any medium, the library’s collections, or the library as a place. Applicants are encouraged to reflect on and highlight how the concept of story connects to their identity and experience, or otherwise plays a role in the rich and diverse fabric of our community.

The application should consist of a brief (150 words or less) proposal connecting the artist’s current or future work to the themes described above; five digital images of original works by the applicant; a separate document that lists the file name, artwork title, year created, medium and dimensions of work for the five images; an artist statement; and contact information for the artist. Please submit all images and supporting documentation at one time. The deadline for entries is December 17. Applications will be considered by a selection panel composed of representatives from OPL and the local arts community. Each applicant will receive written notification regarding the panel’s decision before January 14.

Artists can submit their application and all required materials by email to msorensen@omahalibrary.org. An honorarium of $300 will be paid to each artist chosen to exhibit in the Michael Phipps Gallery in 2022.
