Summer is here and so is Omaha Public Library’s (OPL) annual Summer Reading Program (SRP), now through July 31! Thousands of people commit to the Summer Reading Program each year to celebrate reading and learning, and – though reading is its own reward – take advantage of the chance to earn prizes.
OPL will provide kids and teens with two free books to keep when they register for SRP, and adults receive a coupon for a free book from the Friends of Omaha Public Library book sale – giving everyone reading material to help them get started toward their goals.
After completing 10 hours of reading and/or other learning activities, kids, teens and adults will receive additional prizes (while supplies last), along with an entry for raffle prizes.
This year’s SRP theme is “Color Your World,” a fitting concept for libraries that encourage curiosity, creativity and discovery through the pages of books. Explore some book picks from OPL staff around art and creativity or join one of the many programs offered this summer.
Adults are invited to learn about textiles with weaver and author Mary Zicafoose, paint alongside a Certified Bob Ross Instructor at a Joy of Painting Paint Along or attend an Out & About Reading Party (the June 12 event will be at the Omaha Dog Bar!).
Tweens and teens can participate in gaming tournaments, babysitting clinics or printmaking workshops, to name just a few opportunities. Kids can join everything from animal shows and writing workshops to special storytimes and juggling shows. And no matter your age, there’s an escape room for you this summer at the library.
Discover storytelling through all its forms and color our world with creativity and curiosity! View a complete schedule at omahalibrary.org/summer-reading-program.
