On August 2, 1976, the A.V. Sorensen Library and Community Center opened its doors to the public. The opening of this joint facility was much anticipated in the Dundee neighborhood, whose residents had petitioned and advocated on its behalf. Its 40th anniversary was recognized with a free open house on Saturday, August 20. Participants enjoyed refreshments and activities, as well as the opportunity to hear from and meet the directors of Omaha Public Library and the City of Omaha Parks & Recreation departments.
