Comfort food is defined by Merriam-Webster as food prepared in a traditional style having a usually nostalgic or sentimental appeal. With this definition in mind, what comes to your mind when you think of comfort food? Macaroni and cheese? Fried chicken? Pie?

More than 135 people attended the 6th annual culinary conference on November 5, 2016. Local chefs shared their comfort food specialties and attendees enjoyed food samples throughout the day.

This year’s conference celebrated comfort foods and featured Chewish cookbook author Sandra Goldberg Wendel, as well as Omaha World- Herald food writer Sarah Baker Hansen. Colin and Jessica Duggan from Kitchen Table and Chad Lebo from Cure Cooking conducted food demos, and participants enjoyed a panel discussion with Cody Jorgensen, Accelerando Coffee House; Patricia “Big Mama” Barron, Big Mama’s Kitchen & Catering; Mark Pluhacek, Marks Food, Wine & Spirit; and Nick Petrow, Petrow’s Restaurant. Food samples were served throughout the event.

Special thanks to the conference presenters, Edible Omaha and the Omaha Public Library Foundation for their support.
