Free Comic Book Day is celebrated annually on the first Saturday of May and brings together longtime fans and newcomers alike! Visit any OPL branch on Saturday, May 3, to pick up a free comic book while supplies last.
Some locations are also hosting related events to celebrate the day.
Superhero Training
Downtown, Florence, and A.V. Sorensen branches, for kids
9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Kids are invited to join a super adventure featuring superheroes and villains in honor of Free Comic Book Day! Enjoy fun crafts and hands-on activities inspired by your favorite superheroes! Costumes are encouraged but not required. All materials are free and provided while supplies last.
Comic Book Workshops
11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at South Omaha Library, for teens
2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Saddlebrook Branch, for kids and teens
Join local author and illustrator Caitlin Cass as they guide participants in creating their own comic. All materials will be provided at no cost, and registration is required for both events.
Science of Superheroes: The Origins and Power of Superman
1-2 p.m. at Benson Branch, for adults 19+
Join Dan Claes, professor of physics and astronomy at UNL, for a presentation on the science of superheroes. In this discussion, we will be featuring the origins and powers of Superman as part of a celebration of Free Comic Book Day.
Genealogy of Superheroes
3-4 p.m. at the Genealogy & Local History Room
Join OPL for a genealogy program laser focused on superheroes. Learn more about the family history of some of your favorite superheroes, discover your superhero name, identify your superhero persona, and gain skills to start your own genealogy research.All materials are free and provided while supplies last. Registration is required.
