Omaha Public Library (OPL) is excited to offer the community a behind-the-scenes look at the future Central Library, currently under construction and set to open in spring 2026.
The first release in a new video storytelling series, “Welcoming You to OPL’s Central Library | A Place for Community,” features voices from OPL staff and project partners, highlighting how the new library will reflect Omaha’s evolving needs and aspirations.
In addition to a peek at construction progress, these videos will help share the vision behind the space — one rooted in connection, inclusivity and innovation. Interviewees discuss how the Central Library will serve as a welcoming hub for all, with flexible gathering spaces, access to cutting-edge technology and resources that foster creativity, learning and collaboration.
“The people of Omaha value reading, value access to materials, and also value a sense of community,” said Laura Marlane, executive director of Omaha Public Library. “A library is a place where anybody is welcome and can go to spend time, to spend the day and to connect with ideas and resources, but also connect with people. And Central [Library] is designed around the idea of being a space for people.”
New videos will be published each month on the library’s website and shared across OPL’s social media channels in the lead up to Central Library’s spring 2026 opening, focusing on different spaces as the building continues to take shape.
