For 16 years, Omaha Public Library has celebrated author Jane Austen's birthday with a delightful afternoon tea. The event takes place in early December.
The 2019 Jane Austen Tea Party will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14 at W. Dale Clark Main Library from 2-4 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite tea cups, and if they like, dress in period costume. Those in attendance are treated to a guest speaker, and occasionally music, poetry and dancing. The Bookworm bookstore is often on site with a selection of books and holiday gift items available for purchase.
This program is sponsored by the Friends of Omaha Public Library and the Nebraska Chapter of the Jane Austen Society of North America.
Jane Austen (1775-1817) is a world-renowned English author best known for her works "Sense and Sensibility," "Pride and Prejudice," "Mansfield Park" and "Emma." Though largely unacknowledged as a writer during her lifetime, her timeless stories have been translated, adapted, turned into movies and television shows, and remained as popular as any literary works in history.
