Everyone is invited to participate in the annual Summer Reading Program (SRP) at Omaha Public Library (OPL)! With libraries currently closed until further notice, this year’s SRP will look different than usual, yet it will still focus on the joy of reading for fun and help to keep kids’ minds sharp while they are out of school. The program takes place June 1-July 31. Learn more about the program and register at omahalibrary.org or by calling 402-444-4800.
Although reading is its own reward, kids, teens and adults can earn prizes by reading and/or listening to books for 10 hours. Audiobooks and CDs, eBooks and Playaways count for SRP as well. Log the time for books you read/listened to online to be eligible to win prizes. Prizes for kids and teens include coupons to local venues, an Omaha Storm Chasers prize pack, entries into a drawing for gift cards, and the choice between a clear stadium bag, water bottle or pencil case. Adults who achieve summer reading goals will receive a voucher for a free book from the Friends of Omaha Public Library book sale (when book sales resume), entry into drawings for gift cards to retailers, and the choice between a clear stadium bag, water bottle or pencil case. Prizes will be available after June 15 (while supplies last) at OPL branches offering curbside pick-up. Following program completion, schedule prize pick up through the library’s website or by calling curbside locations during open hours.
Need books? OPL’s eBooks and downloadable audiobooks are available through its website. Physical library items may be placed on hold through your online account or by phone and scheduled for pick-up at library locations designated for curbside pick-ups.
Join OPL online for many of the same activities and presentations that you enjoy and look forward to every summer, including the Dr. Oxygen science show, escape rooms, a magic show with Jeff Quinn, Out & About storytimes, Wildlife Encounters, and more! A full schedule of events is available at omahalibrary.org.
In 2019, 30,775 people participated in SRP and logged an outstanding 301,490 reading hours!
