The Call for Artists application process for 2019 has been extended through Friday, September 14 at 5 p.m.
Artists who live or work in the Omaha metro area are eligible to apply to have their work considered for a potential exhibition in Omaha Public Library's (OPL's) Michael Phipps Gallery, located in the southeast corner of the first floor at W. Dale Clark Main Library, 215 S. 15th St.
Artwork must be original and professionally presented. Images and accompanying information should be submitted electronically via email or flash drive.
Submissions must include the following information:
Images: Include five digital images of your artwork. Images must be submitted as individual JPG files.
Image List: Images must be accompanied by a separate document (in Word or PDF format) that lists information about each work. The document must list:
- The JPG file name
- Title of the artwork
- Year created (or approximate)
- Dimensions of work
Artist Statement: A brief artist statement or description of artwork—75 to 150 words—must accompany the submission (in Word or PDF format).
Contact Information: Artist name, address, phone number and email address (in Word or PDF format).
Artists can submit their applications in one of three ways:
- Email images to email@example.com.
- Submit via digital storage device (flash drive) in person at the W. Dale Clark Main Library first floor information desk to the attention of the Gallery Exhibition Coordinator.

Honorarium: An honorarium of $150 will be awarded to each artist chosen to exhibit in the Michael Phipps Gallery in the upcoming year.
Gallery Space: The Michael Phipps Gallery is located in the southeast corner of the main floor of W. Dale Clark Library, 215 S. 15th Street.
Security: Normal precautions for the security of the exhibition will be exercised by OPL, but ultimate responsibility for the exhibit is that of the artist/owner. OPL is not responsible for damage or theft, and provides no insurance coverage for this purpose.
Art Jury Selection: The Art Selection Jury is composed of representatives from OPL and arts community.
Notification: Each artist will receive notification of the Jury’s decision.
Waiver by Exhibitor Form: A checklist of all pieces on display must be completed, signed and given to the Gallery Exhibition Coordinator before an exhibition is installed.
Exhibition of Work: Each piece must have an accompanying tag listing artist name, title of piece and medium. A price list, description of the artwork on display, and biographical information about the artist may be left at the library and made available to the public upon request. Materials may be sold at the artist’s/owner’s discretion. Prices may be posted, and a donation of 10% given to Omaha Public Library Foundation from any sales conducted on library property.
Installation: Each exhibitor is responsible for the installation and dismantling of the exhibit as scheduled. If library staff has to dismantle an exhibit after the scheduled removal date, OPL will not be responsible for any damage.
Artists must bring their own supplies; including tools, labels, signs and tape. OPL has special hooks/hangers for the walls.
Once installed, exhibitions may be displayed for up to eight weeks.
Rights: By agreeing to exhibit your collection at OPL, the owner/artist agrees to allow OPL the right to photograph items and use them for the purposes of promoting the exhibition and OPL in general, giving appropriate credit to the owner/artist.
