Omaha Public Library (OPL) is accepting applications from Omaha-area artists for 2020 exhibitions in the Michael Phipps Gallery. The Phipps Gallery is located in the southeast corner of the first floor at W. Dale Clark Main Library, 215 S. 15th St. Each exhibition is typically on display for two months and combines the works of two or more selected artists.
Artwork must be original and professionally presented. Images and accompanying information must be submitted electronically via email or flash drive.
Submissions must include the following information:
Images: Five digital images of your artwork as individual JPG files
Image List: A separate document (in Word or PDF format) that lists information about each work. The document must list:
- The JPG file name
- Title of the artwork
- Year created (or approximate)
- Dimensions of work
Artist Statement: A brief artist statement or description of artwork—75 to 150 words (in Word or PDF format).
Contact Information: Artist name, address, phone number and email address (in Word or PDF format).
Artists can submit their applications in one of three ways:
- Email images and accompanying to email@example.com.
- Submit via USB flash drive in person at the W. Dale Clark Main Library first floor information desk to the attention of the Arts & Culture Librarian.

The deadline for entries is Friday, September 13, at 5 p.m.
Honorarium: An honorarium of $150 will be awarded to each artist chosen for these exhibitions in the Michael Phipps Gallery through October 2020.
Security: Normal precautions for the security of the exhibition will be exercised by OPL, but ultimate responsibility for the exhibit is that of the artist/owner. OPL is not responsible for damage or theft, and provides no insurance coverage for this purpose.
Art Panel Selection: The art selection panel is composed of representatives from OPL and the local arts community.
Notification: Each artist will receive notification of the panel's decision by early October.
Waiver by Exhibitor Form: A checklist of all pieces on display must be completed, signed and given to the Arts & Culture Librarian before an exhibition is installed.
Exhibition of Work: Each piece will have an accompanying tag listing artist name, title of piece and medium. A price list, description of the artwork on display, and biographical information about the artist may be left at the library and made available to the public upon request.
Installation: Each exhibitor is responsible for the delivery and removal of their art before and after the exhibit as scheduled, and for coordinating any specialized installation needs with the gallery curator and Arts & Culture Librarian. OPL will not be responsible for any damage to artworks during installation or dismantling.
Rights: By agreeing to exhibit your collection at OPL, the owner/artist agrees to allow OPL the right to photograph items and use them for the purposes of promoting the exhibition and OPL in general, giving appropriate credit to the owner/artist.
