Hidden America

When you turn on the lights, do you wonder where the power comes from?  Or who picks the blueberries for your breakfast cereal?

Jeanne Marie Laskas’ book puts a human face on the invisible machine that makes American society work. We hear about coal miners’ fatalistic attitude toward the constant threat of tunnel collapse or the Iowa trucker who enjoys being part of feeding a nation.

Hidden America doesn’t sermonize but it does make us realize that there is a human supply chain when we flip that light switch!
