Each year around Valentine's Day, Omaha Public Library hosts its annual Speed Dating event.
Speed dating event is a fun and easy way for singles (ages 25+) to meet several potential dates in one sitting. There are several dating age ranges to choose from, and participating individuals select the age range they are interested in dating upon registration. Each participant has three minutes to chat with a potential match. Conversation starters are provided (just in case). If two people mutually indicate interest in each other, they will be given contact information to schedule a real date on their own.
Since the event's beginning in 2009, three known marriages have resulted from the matches made. These successes have helped to increase the popularity of the event, and many categories of daters fill up quickly. Registration for the event typically opens during the first week in January. Registration is required. A cash bar (wine, beer and soda) are available at the events.
